South Central Nebraska 2000 Trip Story

Firday - Saturday, July 23-24, 2000, Scott Isaacson and I toured South Central Nebraska for two days.

DAY 1
On the first day we visited Nebraska newest attraction, the Great Platte River Road Archway Monument. The educational display inside this two-story archway above interstate 80 traces the history of the Platte River Road from Oregon Trails days to today's fiber optic communication. The balance of the afternoon, we visited Fort Kearny State Historical Park and Recreation Area. Before dinner we toured the Old Union Pacific Depot and buildings - one room school, small hotel and A chapel at Kearney's Trails and Rails Museum. The day ended with ice cream sundaes at Sonic - a 50's style drive-in restaurant.

DAY 2
The Next Day we stopped at the old hydro electrical power dam at University of Nebraska at Kearney, visited the Chevyland Museum (in Elm Creek, west of Kearney), we take a tour of the recently restored Minden Opera House and we walked the streets and visited the buildings (including the new flour mill) of the Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer - Railroad Town (in Grand Island).

It was a fun two days visiting South Central Nebraska.
