The first week in August, I visited two close
friends and went sightseeing in the Twin Cities
Area (St Paul & Minneapolis). I had five packed
days with Shawn and Don.
DAY
1
On Wednesday, Shawn meets me at the huge
"St Paul -
Minneapolis International Airport". We spend
the afternoon at the world's largest mall -
Mall of
America. Here, I had a late lunch at Little
Tokyo (food Court), we walked through / around
Knott's Camp
Snoopy and visited the Lego Imagination Center.
That evening, we rode a 1900's streetcar on the
mile-long "Como-Harriet
Streetcar line". It is a nice ride through the
woods between two large lakes south of downtown
Minneapolis.
DAY
2
Most of the next day we spent at the
Minnesota Zoo.
Our zoo stay started with a Dolphin Show at
Discovery Bay "Aquarium". Next we walked the
Safari-like Northern Trail. Here we saw Bison,
Amour tiger, Asian wild horses and other animals.
We stopped at the new "Family
Farm". The zoo visit ended with walking the
indoor Tropics and Minnesota "animals" trails. The
Minnesota Zoo is interesting, but I think Omaha has
a better zoo.
Later that afternoon, we visited the beautiful
nearly 100 years "Cathedral
of Saint Paul" in Downtown St Paul.
DAY
3
On Friday, our tour of downtown St. Paul continued
with a morning tour of the Minnesota
State Capitol and lunch in capitol's basement
"Rathskeller cafe". After Lunch, we went to the new
riverfront "Science
Museum of Minnesota" . Here we visited the
Mississippi River Gallery with Towboat and the
Dinosaurs displays. Also we enjoyed eye tricks in
the "Perception Theater" and a muilt-media 3d laser
show "Web of Life". Mid-afternoon, we walked a few
blocks to view the restored Old Federal Courts
building, the "Landmark
Center".
The afternoon ended with visiting the "Trains at
Bandana" - a 30's-50's era "0"-scale layout by the
Twin City Model
Railroad club. This layout features twin cities
railroad landmarks including the vary building it's
housed in - A former Northern Pacific cars repair
shops.
That Evening Shawn took to my other friend
Don.
DAY
4
Most of Saturday, Don's family and I
spent on the Minneapolis Riverfront. We hikeed the
2-mile long "Saint
Anthony Falls Heritage Trail", which included a
walk across the "Stone Arch Bridge"- a historical
railroad bridge. From one side of bridge, we
enjoyed the view of St Anthony Falls and the other
side, the Washburn
Mill ruins (soon will be a Museum). After
lunch, we visited "Our
Lady of Lourdes Church" - the oldest church in
twin cities.
DAY
5
My Last day in the twins Cities, Sunday,
we attended the Sunday service at Wooddale
Church. After Lunch, off to the airport for my
flight home. My plane was 3 hour late and this give
me time to walk around and view historical
airplanes at various spots throughout the
"St Paul -
Minneapolis International Airport".
